Now, the city is back and better than ever. Over the past few years, Tijuana has been experiencing a revitalization. The news of violent crime scared many American tourists away. For many years during the 2000s tourism dried up and the city was quite depressing. Unfortunately, Tijuana has earned itself a bit of a bad reputation due to the high crime rate that the city has experienced in the past. Tijuana is sometimes called ‘the most visited city in the world’ because over 50 million people cross between San Diego and Tijuana per year.
The city is considered a cultural center of Mexico. Tijuana is the 5 th largest city in Mexico and one of the fastest-growing with a metro population of about 1.8 million people.
